CMTWednesday night in Nashville, Little Big Town hosts the CMT Music Awards live from Bridgestone Arena, for the second year in a row.

They’re also performing their new song, “The Daughters,” and teaming up with Thomas Rhett to do another song he and Karen Fairchild wrote with a famous group of R&B producers: “Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time.”

The Stereotypes were responsible for producing and writing ’24 Karat Magic’ and a lot of that Bruno Mars record,” TR explains. “They were in town for a couple of days and… we wrote this song.”

From there, it only made sense for LBT to sing on his record — an experience TR calls both “hilarious and awesome at the same time” — much like Wednesday night’s performance.

“There’s a lot of moving pieces,” Thomas says. “There’s cryo, there’s confetti, there’s horn players up on the deck, and our whole band, and all of us, and just a lot of energy up there.”

“It’s so much fun to be up there, it’s magic for me onstage!” Kimberly Schlapman adds.

When Karen asks if Kimberly’s going to dance, she replies, “I’m dancing! I found out we had choreography… And I said, ‘I’m gonna need a little help with that.'”

“Meaning a cocktail,” Karen laughs.

But backstage, it may be an even bigger party.

“There’s about fifteen artists crammed in the dressing room,” TR reveals. “And we’re all just hanging out before we get going.”

“That’s the fun of this show,”  Jimi Westbrook agrees. “It’s all about just having a good time. And you feel that all the way from the crowd to the people that are backstage.”

You can tune in for all the fun starting at 8 p.m. ET on CMT.
