MHPD finds starting point on enforcing medical marijuana laws

With marijuana becoming legal and available for medical purposes in Arkansas, one of the questions throughout the state has been how the laws are going to be enforced. Some law enforcement agencies have medical marijuana policies in place, and for others, it’s still a work-in-progress.

While the Mountain Home Police Department is still in its planning stages, it does have a starting point on enforcing the medical marijuana laws. Police Chief Carry Manuel says those with marijuana will need to have proper identification to show they can legally possess the drug, if they come in contact with a Mountain Home officer.

The Mountain Home Police Department has been reviewing the medical marijuana laws, and the officers completed training conducted by the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control, the agency charged with enforcing them. Chief Manuel says his department’s officers are using what they learned in the training seminar to enforce the laws.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office is still working on its medical marijuana policies.
