RCA NashvilleToday, Chris Young plays the Windy City Smokeout in Chicago. And if you’re thinking the”Raised on Country” hitmaker will probably spend his day exploring the city or hitting the links — well, you’d be wrong.

“There are some people living that way,” Chris says. “They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, we went golfing in the morning.’ And I was like, ‘No.'”

“When I wake up,” he explains, “it’s probably multiple interviews, especially if it’s day one of the run. Then it’s straight into soundcheck, soundcheck for 45 minutes to an hour. Get everything the way we want it to, because every venue’s different. Go back, go find a gym somewhere close by.”

Chris says his German Shepherd, Porter, is usually the highlight of his working days on the road.

“I’ve normally got my dog, so my dog’s out all the time. That’s probably the most fun thing I’m doing in a show day outside of the actual show part.”

“But, you know, pretty much…radio obligations, then you do a meet-and-greet, and then it’s time for a show. So it’s a pretty long day,” he admits. “If you’re doing a festival, maybe there’s not as much going on, but for headlining shows and amphitheaters or arenas, it’s a full day of stuff.”

Chris’s Raised on Country Tour continues Saturday night at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
