Officials with the Izard County Sheriff’s Department are warning the public of a scam involving the law enforcement agency.
Officials say they have had reports of people receiving calls from an individual identifying himself as being with the sheriff’s department. The caller ID number indicates it is the Izard County Sheriff’s Department.
The caller is asking for Social Security numbers and banking information. Those receiving the scam calls are being told the vehicle registered to them has been involved in a crime in another state.
Sheriff’s officials warn their phone number is being spoofed, meaning the displayed number on the caller ID is different than the actual number from which the call was placed. They urge those receiving the scam calls to not provide personal information.
