A group of nearly 30 civic leaders gathered at the Calico Rock Museum & Visitor Center Monday to learn about grant funding opportunities. The workshop was conducted by staff from the Arkansas Humanities Council in Little Rock.

The workshop focused on grant opportunities in the humanities and offered specific information on the application process. Afterwards, staff answered questions and received feedback on projects that are being conducted in the communities that might be future funding opportunities for the council.

Representatives from various civic organizations in Calico Rock, Mountain View and Norfork were in attendance.

Calico Rock Mayor Greg Hamby says, “This was a great opportunity to learn about funding opportunities that don’t require a lot of paperwork, but offer money for projects that will make a difference in our local communities.”

The Arkansas Humanities Council offers a minigrant program funding projects up to $2,000 and major grant projects funding up to $10,000. Involvement with a humanities scholar is required of all projects. However, the grant application process is relatively simple.

Jama Best, executive director of the Arkansas Humanities Council, says, “These grants are great because they directly benefit local communities and they provide funding that jump start projects.”
