NEA residents swim to safety after vehicle enters lake at Henderson

A pair of Northeast Arkansas residents were able to escape drowning after their vehicle ran into Norfork Lake early Sunday morning at Henderson. According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Jordan Mays of Jonesboro and her passenger, 21-year-old Taylor Williams of Paragould, were uninjured in the 2:24 a.m. accident.

Mays and Williams were traveling on County Road 832 a quarter-mile north of Spicewood Lane when their vehicle began heading toward the lake. Mays says she attempted to use her brakes and put the vehicle in reverse, but she was unable to prevent it from going in the water. Mays and Williams were able to roll the windows down, exit the vehicle and swim to shore.

Damage to Mays’ vehicle was estimated at $10,000.
