A Fulton County man, 29-year-old Shain Smith, is facing 15 felony charges in connection with burglarizing a home and taking weapons, after no one responded to him knocking on the door of the residence.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Smith’s grandmother consented to a search of the property where the two reside. During the search, a deputy found a flashlight on top of the home’s refrigerator matching the description of one taken in a burglary, along with a white crystalline and powder substance, Smith identified as bath salts.

The property was then secured and a search warrant obtained. During the execution of the search warrant, several items were located listed in the residential burglary, including a pistol reportedly found in an open field. Several firearms were found in a bathroom area where Smith had direct access.

As the chief deputy was securing the pistol, Smith allegedly spontaneously said the weapon was taken in the burglary.

He is reported to have told his grandmother he was walking down the road, went to a residence, knocked at the door and found no one at the home. Smith said he entered the residence, taking the guns and other items. He told his grandmother he didn’t know why he burglarized the home, saying it was spontaneous.

Smith is facing eight felony counts of possession of firearms by certain persons, meaning he is a convicted felon; two counts of theft of property involving firearms; two counts of defacing a firearm; two counts of possession of a defaced firearm and one count of residential burglary; as well as one misdemeanor count of theft of property.

His bond was set at $65,000.
