City of Harrison officials are exploring the development of a community center and recreational complex to be financed with two sales tax proposals.

Hometown Daily News of Branson reports at a special Harrison City Council meeting Thursday alderman gave first round approval to ordinances that would place the sales tax proposals on the November election ballot.

Voters would be asked to support a three-quarters of a 1 percent sales tax to develop and build the center and to repay the bonds needed for construction of the project.

A second proposal of a one-quarter of a 1 percent sales tax would also be on the ballot for funding needed to maintain the facility.

The ordinances call for the proposals to be placed on the Nov. 12 election ballot.

The second and third required readings of the proposed ordinances will be before the council Thursday evening at 6. City officials say the meeting will be held in the Durand Center, located at 303 North Main in Harrison, to allow a larger number of citizens to attend.
