ABC/Mark LevineBilly Ray Cyrus is a part of music history in more ways than one.

His collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X, “Old Town Road” sits at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the 17th consecutive week. That means the genre-defying stars officially have the longest running #1 song in history.

The twosome beat out Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s “One Sweet Day” and Luis FonsiJustin Bieber and Daddy Yankee‘s collaborative smash “Despactio,” both of which held the top spot for 16 consecutive weeks.

Billy Ray previously set another significant record when his album, Some Gave All, spent 17 consecutive weeks in the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart in 1992, marking the longest reign at #1 by a debut artist.

“17 is my new favorite number! 17 weeks No. 1 single ‘Old Town Road.’ 17 weeks No. 1 Album Some Gave All,” Billy Ray reflects. “My goal was always to make music that would touch people’s lives around the world.”

“Old Town Road,” which was disqualified from Billboard‘s country tallies, has also sat comfortably in the #1 slot on Billboard‘s Streaming Songs, Hip-Hop Songs/R&B Songs and Top Rap Songs charts for 17 weeks.
