An Oklahoma man died Saturday after falling off the tailgate of a pickup truck he was riding on in the area of the Buffalo National River. According to the National Park Service, 54-year-old Troy Roderick of Cushing was pronounced dead at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison after being transported from the Ozark Campground.

Roderick had been at the swimming area along the Buffalo River at the north end of the campground. He was reportedly riding on the tailgate while the truck was traveling back to the campsite just after 5 p.m. Roderick fell off the tailgate and lost conciousness.

Other visitors immediately began CPR. Roderick was later transported to the hospital by the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center ambulance service.

The National Park Service is reminding visitors of the river riding on any section of a motor vehicle not designated for the use of passengers is dangerous and illegal in Arkansas. Visitors are urged to use the utmost caution while enjoying the Buffalo River.
