Classes for the new school year will begin in just a few weeks, and public districts in Ozark County are preparing for new students. According to the Ozark County Times, the local districts have released different dates for registration and the start of the new session.

At the Bakersfield R-IV School District, new student registration is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Tuesday. Teachers report for in-service Aug. 7 through 9 and 12. An open house is set for Aug. 8 from 5:30 until 7:30. Classes begin Aug. 13, and Bakersfield will operate on a four-day school week Tuesday through Friday.

Bakersfield teachers held several fundraisers throughout the year to provide basic school supplies for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, but there is a limited supply list of items not provided by the fundraisers including backpacks and hand sanitizer. The list is available at bakersfield.k12.mo.us, the Bakersfield Alumni Facebook and Walmart.

At the Gainesville R-V School District, returning students will register Aug. 7. Registration will be held for seniors and sixth graders at 8 a.m., juniors and fifth graders at 9, sophomores and third and fourth graders at 10, freshmen at 11, second graders at noon, first and eighth graders at 1 and seventh graders and kindergartners at 2. New students can register Aug. 8 from 8 until noon and 1 until 3. In-service for teachers will be held Aug. 9 and 12. An open house for students and parents is set for Aug. 12 from 5 until 7, and students report to classes the next day.

At the Lutie R-VI School District in Theodosia, student registration is Aug. 8 and 9 from 9 until 2, and sports physicals will be held from 9 until noon. Teachers will have in-service Aug. 7 through 12, and a community open house and barbecue are set for Aug. 12 from 5 until 7. Students begin classes Aug. 13, and Lutie will operate on a four-day week Tuesday through Friday.

Lutie is providing school supplies for all students as needed courtesy of donations from the community. Donations can be dropped off at the office.

At the Dora R-III School District, student registration is scheduled for Aug. 8 and 9 from 8 until 3. A Back-to-School Fair is scheduled for Saturday in Dora’s cafeteria. Free clothing, shoes, haircuts and other goods and services will be available to students. An open house is scheduled for Aug. 13 from 4 until 7, and the first day of classes will be Aug. 15.

All required supplies for Dora students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are being donated and will be given to students on the first day of classes. Paper, pens and pencils are also being donated to the high school classrooms. The provisions are supplies through the nonprofit Back to School Basics of Ozark County.

At Thornfield R-I School for kindergarten through eighth grade, new students can register Tuesday from 9 until 3. An open house for students and families will be Aug. 15 from 5 until 6, and classes begin the next day.
