The United Daughters of the Confederacy® and the Sons of the Confederacy will be holding a membership drive Saturday morning at 11 on the courthouse square in Mountain Home.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy® is one of the oldest patriotic lineage societies in the United States. It is the outgrowth of many local associations and auxiliaries to camps of the United Confederate Veterans that were organized after the War Between the States.Members of the group work to honor their Confederate ancestors through activities that fulfill the historical, educational, benevolent, memorial and patriotic objectives of the Organization.

The UDC works to preserve, restore and mark Confederate historic sites, monuments and markers. Scholarships awarded to descendants of eligible Confederate ancestors are a UDC priority.

Members support a wide range of charitable organizations and efforts at the local, national and international levels by donating time, funds and needed supplies. The UDC is among the first in aiding the country during times of crisis and maintains unwavering American patriotism.

Membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy® is open to females 16 years or older, who are blood descendants, lineal (direct) or collateral (niece) or men or women who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America, or gave Material Aid to the Cause (nurse, scout, financial or other support).

Ancestors must have served honorably and must not have taken the Oath of Allegiance to the United States before April 9, 1865.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans is preserving the history and legacy of the soldiers who fought for the Confederacy in preservation of liberty and freedom.

The SCV is the direct heir of the United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896, the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period is preserved.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for full membership is 12, but there is no minimum for Cadet membership.
