A Baxter County man, 29-year-old Shawn Backowski of Mountain Home, has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged theft from his employer.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Mountain Home Police were contacted Monday by a corporate representative for a local business.

The representative explained an employee of the business had been monitored for a theft.

Evidence gathered from the monitoring showed the store’s asset protection manager, identified as Backowski, had allegedly been stealing funds from the cash office over several months.

The store representative provided police with video clips of Backowski reportedly completing the transactions. The video show Backowski allegedly enter the cash office and complete false transactions on the computer, allowing cash to be dispensed like an automated teller machine.

Over the months, Backowski is reported to have made these ATM-type transactions for complaints from customers that did not exist, taking over $8,000 in cash in the process.

The Mountain Home man is charged with felony counts of theft of property, breaking or entering and computer fraud. His bond was set at $10,000.
