A stolen ATV featured on a social media yard sale site and eventually traced back to a Mountain Home man resulted in a four-year probation sentence for him.

Thirty-six-year-old Robert Chatman pled no contest to charges stemming from the August 2017 theft of the ATV valued at $2,000.

The owner of the vehicle told sheriff’s office investigators he had left the four-wheeler in the woods on his property in Gamaliel, after it developed mechanical problems.

When he returned a few days later, he discovered the ATV missing. It had apparently been pushed over a broken fence and onto adjoining property.

The investigation eventually led to Chatman, who lived in a house on the property where the stolen ATV was allegedly taken, after being found in the woods.

Chatman initially denied any knowledge of the theft, but when investigators traced the ATV back through various purchasers, they located the person who said he had bought the unit from Chatman in August 2017.
