The deployment of a K9 named Kain is being credited with taking 298 grams of methamphetamine, over $3,000 and a handgun off the streets in Douglas County and the arrest of three people now facing drug trafficking charges.

Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase says the three arrested following an overnight traffic stop Friday in Ava are 29-year-old Hanna Schaum, 59-year-old Darvin Taylor, both of Tecumseh, and 63-year-old Danny Walker of Pottersville.

Sheriff Degase says following the stop, the three became nervous, and the officer observed indicators there could be illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.

K9 Kain alerted on the vehicle, and the three were detained. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of the illegal drug, cash and handgun.

The three have been charged with felony drug trafficking and unlawful use of a weapon.

Bond for Schaum was set at $20,000, with Taylor and Walker being held without bond.
