With the heat ramping up again in the Twin Lakes Area, a local organization is offering a cool spot for those who might not have access to air conditioning. The Salvation Army has opened a cooling station at its social service center at 111 Arkansas Highway 201 North in Mountain Home.

The Salvation Army local commander Major Ernie Branscum says they first opened a cooling center a couple of weeks ago when the heat indices reached triple digits.

Branscum says the key to deciding on when to open a cooling center is when they hear the term “heat index” in the forecast.
