Pocahontas boys, Highland girls win Cougar Classic

Several more high school golfers began the season Tuesday as Izard County hosted the Cougar Classic at Coopers Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne.

Pocahontas won the boys’ side of the tournament with a total of 255 as they beat Highland by 23 strokes. Izard County ended up in a tie for sixth place at 324. Jackson Hunt of Bay was the medalist after shooting an 82. Viola’s Gage Harris was the top local golfer as he finished in a three-way tie for seventh place with a 92, and Drew Foster led the Cougars as he was 10th with a 94.

Highland ended up at the top of the girls’ team leaderboard with a total of 321 beating out Greers Ferry West Side by 12 strokes. Keylee Circle took the medalist honor for the Lady Rebels after shooting a 100.
