The Mountain Home School Board dealt with a fairly routine agenda Thursday night for its regular August meeting.

The board gave approval to the 2019-20 budget. Superintendent Dr. Jake Long says the budget came in at around $38 million.

Long gives some of the highlights of the budget.

The board also approved spending around $55,000 for a second round of bulk school supplies. The board approved the first purchase of school supplies in April, and those will be distributed to students when school begins next week.

Long informed the board eMint, an educational technology group, is buying the district a large number of Chromebooks.

The Chromebooks are expected to be delivered next week.

The board approved the hiring of Pam Cash as a reading and dyslexia interventionist for the district. Cash will work one-on-one with students. In recent years, computer software was used to aid students who needed help with reading or dyslexia.

The Mountain Home School Board also approved purchasing a new steamer for the food service department at Pinkston Middle School at a price of nearly $14,000. The new steamer replaces one that has stopped working and is not repairable.

There were a number of personnel moves approved during an executive session, including adding a new kindergarten teacher due to more students enrolled in that grade this year. Click here to see the list.
