Cabot resident tops 1st round of ASGA Designated Stroke Play Championship

Saturday’s first round of the Arkansas State Golf Association Designated Stroke Play Championship is in the books at Big Creek Golf and Country Club.

Bill Wrentz of Cabot is the current top overall golfer as he leads the Super Senior division with a three-under-par 69. Wrentz has a five-stroke advantage over Cal Campbell of Hot Springs.

Nathan Munday of Greenwood is at the top of the Amateur division leaderboard with a one-under-par 71. Tyler Reynolds of Rogers is in second place at one shot off the lead. Jackson Marseilles of Harrison is in a tie for sixth place.

Greg Connell of Russellville and Scott Bowen of Little Rock share the first round lead in the Senior division after each shot a one-under-par 71. Little Rock residents Gene Davis and Bev Hargraves are both one stroke back to be in a tie for third place. Two Mountain Home residents are also playing in the Senior division as Michael Cole is sixth with a 76, and Jeff Pipkin is 11th with an 82.

The Mid Senior division lead belongs to Kyle Thompson of Hot Springs Village after he shot a 73 in the first round. Chris Schlette is in second place at two strokes back.
