First Security Bank Bomberfest set for Friday

The Mountain Home School District athletic program hits a milestone with its 10th annual event to bring in the new school year. The First Security Bank Bomberfest is set for Friday beginning at 5 p.m. at Bomber Stadium and Bomber Gymnasium.

In addition to the previews for the upcoming football and volleyball seasons for the Bomber teams, Mountain Home athletic director Mitch Huskey says there will be several other activities at the stadium.

The high school cheer squad will offer face tattoos in addition to their pie in the face activity. In addition to the obstacle course, the National Guard will have peddle carts and a pugle pit. A bouncy house will be provided courtesy of Ashley Havens State Farm and Arvest Bank, and music will be provided by the Nick Reed Band. There will also be a golden football hunt for kids in sixth grade and below in which footballs will be dropped from a helicopter.

Several teams will be competing in the KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot barbecue contest. Teams must have their meat entries ready for pickup by 6. The winners of the barbecue contest, the people’s choice award and the best spirit booth will be announced at 7, along with the winners of the obstacle course.

The volleyball activities will get underway at 5:30 with the seventh grade scrimmage. The eighth grade scrimmage is set for 6:15, followed by the high school team introduction at 6:45 and the freshmen scrimmage at 6:50. The high school team is getting ready for its second season under the direction of head coach Jill Daves, and she says they are eager to get the campaign started.

The football activities will start at 7:30. The seventh and eighth graders will be introduced, the freshmen will scrimmage, and the high school squad will wrap up the evening with a practice.

Admission is a container of peanut butter or other packaged food item. The items will be used for the Backpack Food 4 Kids Program for all Mountain Home students.
