A Gassville woman is accused of selling her son a firearm he allegedly used in an attempted murder. Forty-nine-year-old Melissa Glaze was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Sunday evening on a felony count of furnishing a handgun to a felon and released 4 1/2 hours later after posting a $10,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Gassville Police sergeant responded to a residence on Tallwood Lane in late April for a report of a shooting. Witnesses originally reported the victim, Sarah Orms, went outside and shot herself in the chest in what appeared to be an attempted suicide. The next day, Orms awoke from her surgery and told authorities she was actually shot by 27-year-old Justin Thompson of Gassville. Orms’ account was reportedly confirmed by Thompson and another witness, identified as Taryn Cleveland.

Thompson has been in the detention center since April 30 on felony counts of first-degree criminal attempt to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence and possession of firearms by certain persons and misdemeanor counts of interference with emergency communication and endangering the welfare of a minor. His bond is set at $255,000, and he also has a hold for the Arkansas Department of Correction.

As the investigation continued, it was discovered Thompson allegedly bought the handgun used to shoot Orms from his mother, identified as Glaze. Thompson, Orms and Cleveland said Glaze sold the weapon to her son to cover the cost of her bills.

Glaze is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court.
