Kristie SchramThere are only a handful of bands who can claim a 55-year career…and virtually none who still have all their original members. One exception: The Ides of March, who after 55 years, is still churning out new music. The Ides have just released Play On, a collection of 14 new tunes and a re-release of their classic hit, “Vehicle.”

The album features songwriting by co-founder Jim Peterik, who also wrote “Eye of the Tiger” for his side project, Survivor. Other contributions to Play On come from Grand Funk Railroad‘s Mark Farner, original Ambrosia singer David Pack, and Paul Shaffer of Late Night with David Letterman fame.

Besides standard CD, digital download and streaming formats, Play On also comes as a deluxe, double-disc vintage vinyl edition, which includes the original masters of the band’s Parrot and Warner Brothers singles “Vehicle,” “You Wouldn’t Listen,” “One Woman Man,” “Roller Coaster,” “Flipside,” “Superman,” “LA Goodbye,”  and “Aire Of Good Feeling.”

The Ides will showcase their new album — as well as some vintage tracks and surprises — at a 55th anniversary Chicago-area concert on October 26th at the Genesee Theater in Waukegan, IL. Tickets are available at the theater box office site. and Ticketmaster.  Mark Farner and American Idol alum Bo Bice will join the band as special guests.
