LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP)   A retired attorney and professor says he’s running for the Democratic nomination for a Republican-held U.S. House seat in south Arkansas.

William Hanson on Tuesday said he’s seeking the party’s nomination for the 4th Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Rep. Bruce Westerman. Westerman was first elected to the seat in 2014 and is seeking re-election next year.

Hanson, who’s 65, plans to formally announce his candidacy with an event in Camden on Friday.

Hanson recently retired from Chabot College in Hayward, California. He was an instructor and department chair for the Administration of Justice Program and the director of the Law and Democracy Program.

Republicans hold all four of Arkansas’ U.S. House seats and both of its U.S. Senate seats.
