High school football makes up much of the local Friday schedule, and Mountain Home will be in front of the home crowd for Week One. The Bombers are scheduled to meet Harrison.
Mountain Home is currently 0-1 on the season. The Bombers are coming off a 26-point loss to Sheridan.

Harrison comes into the game ranked eighth in the state overall and second in Class 5A by the Arkansas Sports Media. The Goblins are 1-0, after invoking the mercy rule at Pea Ridge in Week Zero.
The Mountain Home/Harrison rivalry is one of the oldest in Arkansas, and Bombers’ head coach Bryan Mattox says this is a game that gets marked on the calendar every year.

Kickoff at Bomber Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday’s game can be heard on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com. Coverage begins around 5:30, with Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas High School Gameday.

After sitting idle in Week Zero, Yellville-Summit will start its 50th season of high school football Friday night. The Panthers will be on their home turf as their opening opponent will be Green Forest.
Yellville-Summit is coming off a season in which it finished with a record of 4-7 and advanced to the postseason for the second consecutive year. The Panthers fell at Danville in the first round of the Class 3A State Playoffs.

This will also be Green Forest’s season opener. The Tigers finished the 2018 campaign with a mark of 1-9.

Throughout the season, Yellville-Summit will be honoring different teams from its half-century history at various home games. This week, the teams from 2010 to the present will be recognized.
Kickoff at Panther Field is set for 7 p.m.

Another local team will start its season this week. Salem’s opener will be on the road as they will go up against Mountain View.

Last year, the Greyhounds ended up as the 2A-3 conference champions with a record of 9-2. Salem advanced to the second round of the Class 2A State Playoffs before suffering a two-touchdown loss to Earle.

One key to last year’s success was halfback Jordan Turner who ran for 2,885 yards and 38 touchdowns. Turner has since graduated and joined the football team at Harding University in Searcy, but Greyhounds’ coach Clay Wiggins says he still has several other pieces to his team that should make them competitive again this year.
