Exile/Caroline InternationalVan Morrison will release a brand-new studio album called Three Chords & the Truth on October 25.

The 14-track collection was produced by Morrison and features 13 new tunes penned by the famed singer/songwriter, as well as one that he co-wrote with with Don Black titled “If We Wait for Mountains.”

The title appears to reference a famous quote by noted songwriter Harlan Howard, who famously described country music as “three chords and the truth.”

Three Chords & the Truth will be available on CD, as a vinyl LP and digitally. Impressively, it will be the sixth studio album that Van the Man has released in just over four years.

The record features a duet with The Righteous BrothersBill Medley, “Fame Will Eat the Soul,” and includes contributions from guitarist Jay Berliner, who also played on Morrison’s acclaimed 1968 album Astral Weeks.

Describing the making of the album, Morrison says, “You’re just plugging into the feeling of it, more the feeling of it…when they’re playing…It’s like reading me. So, I think there’s more of that connection.”

In advance of Three Chords & the Truth‘s arrival, Van has released one of the tracks, “Dark Night of the Soul,” as a digital single and via streaming services. You also can check out the soulful, R&B-flavored tune at Morrison’s official YouTube channel.

The 74-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has five U.S. concerts scheduled for October, and he’s lined up a five-show Las Vegas residency in early 2020 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
