Interscope RecordsThe Who has debuted a second song in advance of the arrival of its forthcoming first studio album in 13 years, WHO, which now is scheduled for a December 6 release, two weeks later than originally announced.

“All This Music Must Fade” is a catchy and provocative tune that kicks off with the line, “I don’t care, I know you’re gonna hate this song/ And that’s fair, we never really got along.”

The track is available now as a digital single and via streaming services, and you also can check it out at The Who’s official YouTube channel. In addition, fans pre-ordering WHO will receive a free instant download of that tune and another previously released track from the album, “Ball and Chain.”

In a press statement, Who guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend describes “All This Music Must Fade” as a song that’s “dedicated to every artist who has ever been accused of ripping off someone else’s song.” He adds, “Seriously? Our musical palette is limited enough in the 21st Century without some dork claiming to have invented a common chord scheme.”

The tune got its debut earlier today on the U.K.’s BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. Townshend also was interviewed during the program and revealed that singer Roger Daltrey is feeling better after a bout of bronchitis that led The Who to postpone three shows on its current North American tour.

The band’s next concert is scheduled for October 9 in San Francisco, and the trek winds down October 24 in Los Angeles.

Explaining what motivated him to make a new Who album, Townshend said, “I decided I really couldn’t face another tour without new material. I see myself as a songwriter and I just wanted to have the dignity of having an album of new songs.”
