A rural Mountain Home man is accused of assaulting a female and attacking her with a machete. Forty-one-year-old Jody Cox was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Tuesday night on a count of third-degree domestic battery.

According to the incident report, Baxter County 911 dispatch advised the sheriff’s office a male identified as Cox was at a residence on Old Arkana Road breaking things and being verbally violent. While a deputy was enroute to the residence, he was advised Cox had a body attachment warrant from Izard County for a $1,000 cash-only bond.

The deputy arrived and made contact with Cox standing by a truck in the driveway. Cox stated he and the female were in a verbal dispute, and when he attempted to leave the residence, she took a machete to the truck owned by his employer, causing the driver’s side window to break. The deputy advised Cox of the body attachment from Izard County and placed him under arrest.

The deputy later spoke to the female who reportedly had a black left eye and a possible broken nose. She accused Cox of punching her in the face a few days earlier. When asked why she didn’t report it, she stated there was a vehicle accident on Arkansas Highway 201 South at the time. She thought it might be a fatality and felt it was more important than the alleged assault.

The female went on to say before the deputy arrived, Cox was breaking things in the residence. She stated she went to leave and started walking down the road, but Cox grabbed her by her hair and pulled her back toward the house. She claimed Cox would grab her by both sides of her head and squeeze. When the deputy asked about the truck window, she stated Cox was chasing her, so she hit the door with a machete.

Cox was transported to the detention center, and he claimed he never hit the female. He stated she keeps the porch light off at the residence to keep the bugs away, and when she went to go outside, she tripped off the porch and hit her face on a push mower.

Cox was released from the Baxter County Detention Center on a bond of $1,480 nearly three hours after being booked.
