LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Arkansas’ attorney general has warned retailers that they can face steep fines for selling or shipping vaping products to minors.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Attorney General Leslie Rutledge delivered the warning in an enforcement advisory on Monday. The advisory notes that shops could be fined as much as $10,000 under the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
Rutledge also wrote to eBay’s president and CEO, urging him to ensure that teens won’t be able to buy vaping products through that online marketplace.
The advisory comes amid a rise of vaping-related illnesses nationwide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday that 18 vaping-related deaths have been confirmed in 15 states.
The Arkansas Senate’s leader last month proposed a new vaping tax and regulations.
