A 24-year-old Mountain Home man now facing charges in three active criminal cases, including allegedly striking a woman pregnant with his child and slapping a 4-year-old boy, made an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court last Thursday. In Tanner Ray Sebold’s three cases, he is charged with second-degree domestic battery, various drug-related offenses, driving while intoxicated/drugs, endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of a defaced firearm.

He also faces a charge of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony, the most serious crime classification in Arkansas not punishable by death.

His latest charges were filed late last month, after he was involved in a traffic stop with two other adults and a 2-year-old child.

During a search of the vehicle, a Mountain Home Police officer reported finding drugs and weapons in the vehicle.

The Arkansas Department of Human Services took custody of the 2-year-old child.

The domestic violence charges stem from a report made to a Baxter County deputy sheriff Aug. 29 by the female victim who was a patient at Baxter Regional Medical Center. According to the probable cause affidavit, the woman told the deputy that Sebold, identified as her boyfriend, had been verbally abusive since the first of the year, and the verbal abuse had recently turned physical.

The victim, who told the deputy she was 12-weeks pregnant with Sebold’s child, alleged he had tried to hit her in the stomach, choked her several times, hit her in the face with his fist and slammed car doors on her. She said Sebold had also told her to kill herself.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the woman’s 4-year-old son lives in the home, and she said Sebold had been verbally abusive to the boy calling him “stupid” and “retarded.” Sebold was alleged to have also slapped the child “hard” on the back of the head because he was being a “picky eater.” The victim said she went to the aid of the child and was beaten by her boyfriend.

The investigating officer noted the victim did not want charges brought against Sebold. The officer took the information to the prosecutor’s office, and it was decided to file the domestic battery charges.

The victim has also asked a no contact order keeping Sebold away from her be dropped.

Sebold’s original criminal case in Baxter County stems from his arrest in mid-May. According to the probable cause affidavit in that case, an Arkansas State Police trooper traveling on U.S. Highway 62/412 saw a vehicle traveling on the roadway with its headlights off. The trooper initiated a traffic stop. He said as he approached the driver, who identified himself as Sebold, the suspect immediately started explaining he was “just looking for Pokémon.”

While there is no confirmation in the court records, Sebold may have been playing Pokémon GO, a popular game where players use their cellphones’ GPS data and clock to show Pokémon characters in the player’s actual physical location.

Launching a “poke ball” can capture the characters.

As he talked with Sebold, the trooper noticed the odor of marijuana on Sebold’s clothing. He told the trooper he had smoked marijuana about four hours before being stopped.

During a search of Sebold’s vehicle connected to the arrest, the trooper found a glass smoking pipe packed with suspected marijuana. He also found a black satchel containing a glass pipe with what was believed to be methamphetamine residue.

Sebold’s wallet was found to contain four plastic bags containing a total of approximately 4 grams of suspected methamphetamine. The wallet also held a folded up dollar bill containing a small amount of what was believed to be cocaine.
