21 area athletes to compete in state tennis tournaments

High school tennis is scheduled for Monday, as state tournaments get underway throughout Arkansas.

Hot Springs Lakeside will host the Class 5A State Tournament at Hot Springs Country Club, and Mountain Home will have six athletes taking part. On the boys’ side, Dodge Harris meets Ben Hollis of the host Rams in singles play, and Clayton Jones and Jake McGehee will face Greyson Cornelison and Walker Wood of Lakeside in the doubles bracket. In girls’ action, Meagan Beck takes on Jalisa Berrieum of Sylvan Hills in the singles division, and Sarah Godfrey and Macie Heide will be paired with Allison Hall and Shealyn Horton of Benton in doubles play.

Seven area athletes will be in North Little Rock as Episcopal Collegiate hosts the Class 3A State Tournament at Burns Park. In girls’ doubles action, Lisa Schmielt and Chaelann Vicker of Mountain View will play Michaela Binns and Jordan Watson of Drew Central, and Kara Ponder and Maddie Holt of Bergman will meet Fountain Lake’s Emma Kaumeyer and Angela Coriaty. On the boys’ side, A.J. Vanclear and Austin Dixon of Bergman will face Trenton Eubanks and Jesse Mosley of Drew Central in doubles play, and Valley Springs’ Tegan James takes on Lane Simmons of McGehee on the singles bracket.

Harrison will send eight athletes to Clarksville for the Class 4A State Tournament on the campus of the University of the Ozarks. In boys’ action, Donnie Armstrong plays John Jackson of Monticello in the singles division, and Will Mahoney and Ethan Bell will be matched up with Colton Bush and Kessler Mack of Jonesboro Westside in the doubles bracket. Elise Bell will compete in the girls’ singles division as she meets Joiner Love of Pulaski Academy. In the girls’ doubles bracket, Camryn Casey and Kylie Anderson will face Kaylee Eiflino and Jadyn Johnson of Star City, and Lindsey Ward and Isabel McNutt will take on Reagan Booth and Harlee Delouch of Highland.
