Over the years, the Mountain Home School District has worked closely with Baxter Regional Medical Center on a number of opportunities for students. On Thursday, the hospital will be recognized by the Mountain Home Education Foundation when its inducted into the Hall of Honor as the community partner honoree.

For the last decade-and-a-half, seniors at Mountain Home High School Career Academies have had the opportunity to intern at Baxter Regional. Hospital employees train medical intern students in several departments and career fields throughout a semester. Baxter Regional President and CEO Ron Peterson says it’s a good way to prepare students to enter the workforce.

In addition to the internship program, Baxter Regional has provided guest speakers and hands-on learning opportunities in the district. Reppell Diabetes Learning Center Coordinator Jodi Bodenhamer has often been in Mountain Home’s classrooms discussing nutrition and exercise with students, and other hospital employees will visit the high school classrooms monthly as mentors. Peterson says he and the rest of Baxter Regional’s administration feel blessed to have staffers willing to prepare students seeking to get into the health profession and to care about the well-being of the local community.

Baxter Regional has provided other funding and services to the Mountain Home School District. Last year, a high school student got involved in an Eagle Scout project to raise funds for new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) throughout the district. BRMC and the Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation later stepped in to fund the remainder of the necessary AEDs.

Baxter Regional has also funded several EAST projects, including the BigLil Sister program. In addition, Peterson says the hospital provides the district with an athletic trainer on staff.
