Hillbilly Chili Cook-off heats up Twin Lakes Area Saturday

It’s time for the 24th Annual Hillbilly Chili Cook-off festival in Lakeview at the upper park of Bull Shoals-White River State Park on State Highway 178 Saturday.The Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club-sponsored fundraising event opens at 10 and concludes at 4. The entry fee is $3, with children under 12 admitted free.

Lively music, a karaoke contest, cutest costumed “chili dog” contest, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, information booths, a car and boat show, KTLO Treasure Chest, a bouncy house and games for the kids, Harp’s $1,000 shopping spree raffle and chili tastings will fill this family friendly day.Chili cooks will compete in judged homestyle chili and people’s choice chili, with winners receiving prize money and plaques. Prizes will also be given for the best decorated vendor booth, best decorated cook’s booth, winners of the karaoke contest and “chili dog” contest.

Trieneke Self, chairperson of the Hillbilly Chili Cook-off, says, “This is our 24th Annual Hillbilly Chili Cook-off. This year, we are again focusing on rewarding our local cooks and growing our chili cook-off event into a fall festival for all our Twin Lakes area residents and visitors to enjoy.”

Proceeds from the Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club fundraiser benefit the many projects the Rotary Club supports locally and internationally, including End Polio Now campaign, Bull Shoals Food Pantry, Fourth of July fireworks, Flippin third grade dictionary project, Big Brother/Big Sister, the Choices program, Flippin Rotary Interact Club, Rotary Youth Leadership Award camp and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library “Books for Babes” program that sends monthly books to children from infancy to 5 years old, vocational and regular scholarships.
