Capitol/UMeA newly remixed version of The Band‘s enduring tune “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” has been released as a digital single and via streaming services.  It’s taken from the recently announced 50th anniversary reissue of the group’s 1969 self-titled second album.

You also can check out the track now on YouTube.

Besides appearing on The Band, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” was released as part of a two-sided single with “Up on Cripple Creek” and became the group’s highest-charting hit, reaching #25 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song famously was covered in 1971 by Joan Baez, and her version peaked at #3 ion the tally.

As previously reported, the album The Band — also known as “The Brown Album” — will be reissued in multiple formats and configurations on November 15.

Among the versions of the reissue is a Super Deluxe box set featuring two CDs, two 180-gram-vinyl LPs, a Blu-ray disc, a 7-inch vinyl single and a hardbound book.

The CDs feature the remastered original album; bonus alternate takes, outtakes and instrumental mixes — some of which are previously unreleased — plus The Band’s full performance from the 1969 Woodstock festival.  The LPs feature the remastered original album.

The Blu-ray contains high-res stereo and surround mixes of The Band and six unreleased bonus tracks, plus the Classic Albums: The Band making-of documentary. The seven-inch single features “Rag Mama Rag” backed with “The Unfaithful Servant,” and is a reproduction of one that was released from the album.
