Walt Disney Television/Lorenzo BevilaquaSome veteran music artists will be on hand to mark the half-century anniversary of the popular children’s show Sesame Street during a star-studded special that’s set to premiere November 9 on HBO, and also will air November 17 on PBS. Patti LaBelle, Nile Rodgers and Elvis Costello are among the many celebrity guests who will appear on Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.

The special will be hosted by actor Joseph Gordon Levitt and feature appearances by Whoopi Goldberg, Norah Jones, contemporary pop singer Meghan Trainor, This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown and classical violinist Itzhak Perlman.

The program will include re-imagined performances of such classic Sesame Street segments and songs as “People in Your Neighborhood” and “It’s Not Easy Being Green.”

In addition, the show will feature cameo appearances by rarely seen characters such as Kermit the Frog and Roosevelt Franklin, and visits from nearly every human Sesame Street cast member.

The special will mark the start of Sesame Street‘s 50th season, which debuts Saturday, November 16 on HBO.

“We can’t wait to share this season with families and fans of all ages,” says executive producer Ben Lehmann. “Even as we take time to look back and honor our history, we keep innovating to bring today’s preschool kids something that’s tailored just for them — holding on to all the fundamentals that make Sesame Street so magical.”
