Brenda and Larry Nelson will be the guests of honor at the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society’s meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Knox Room of the Donald W. Reynolds Library. The Nelsons will represent the Patriot Guard Riders, an organization honoring the nation’s fallen heroes. The local couple has ridden over 50 missions in four states on their motorcycle with the Patriot Guard Riders.
Larry Nelson is a five-generation Twin Lakes Area native. His grandfather, Newt Nelson, ran the general store on display at Mountain Village 1890 in Bull Shoals. Larry is a veteran of the United States Navy, a Mountain Home Education Foundation Hall of Honor inductee from 2005 and a former president and chief executive officer of First Security Bank.
Larry and Brenda Nelson moved to Mountain Home in 1972. Brenda served as a disc jockey, talk show host and newswoman on KTLO-FM 97.9 for 34 years. She was also the host of “Mountain Home Today” on TV43.
The Nelsons recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have two married children and five grandchildren residing in Northwest Arkansas. Brenda and Larry Nelson are also members of First Baptist Church of Mountain Home, the Big Creek Golf Association and the Rotary Club of Mountain Home.
