With the concerns about youth vaping on the rise, a local school district is taking action. The Salem School District has become one of the first in the state to install vape detectors at its high school campus.
Salem Superintendent Wayne Guiltner says the detectors were installed near the end of August. He says there’s legislation at the state capitol attempting to restrict teens’ access to vapes, and the administration and school board wanted to be a part of the solution.
Listen:
Salem purchased the vape detectors from HALO IoT Smart Sensor. Guiltner says the detectors are hardwired similar to computers.
Listen:
Guiltner says the district hasn’t had any students caught vaping since the detectors were installed, but some adults partook in it for a reason.

Guiltner adds anyone with questions about the vaping detectors can contact the district at 870-895-2516.
