Courtesy of QueenBack in late July, Queen launched its “You Are the Champions” campaign, asking fans to help create three new music videos for the band’s classic songs “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “A Kind of Magic.” Now, those clips have premiered online.
More than 10,000 people from over 120 countries submitted videos, photos or artwork to the initiative via the YouAreTheChampions.com microsite for potential use in the clips. Each video called for fans to display a different talent.
The “Bohemian Rhapsody” video is a performance-based clip utilizing footage of fans either singing or performing the song on various instruments. Among the contributors were harpists, a bassoonist and a group of xylophonists.
The “Don’t Stop Me Now” video is a dance-based clip set to the original tune and features footage of fans performing a special dance created by Polly Bennett, Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek‘s movement coach for the Queen biopic.
The “A Kind of Magic” video also is set to the original track, while using a montage of animated segments and artwork created by fans depicting the song’s lyrics and band members. Among the submissions were paintings, animation, graphic designs and images created by using sand, flowers and more.
Queen guitarist Brian May says of the video campaign, “It’s one of the most rewarding things that can happen to an artist of any kind: To see that our work has inspired folk all around the world to create their own performances and visual art is a thrill. And the diversity of their vision is astonishing. Big thanks to everyone who participated.”
Queen drummer Roger Taylor adds, “Glad you could all join us. Welcome.”
