An 18-year-old Mountain Home man who has run into trouble twice stemming from his possession of marijuana entered a guilty plea on charges filed against him and was sentenced to 10 years probation during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

The first arrest came in late January, when Carter Lynn Pyle made the mistake of calling the cops to help him get into his locked car containing a number of bags of marijuana. According to the probable cause affidavit, Pyle called the police to a parking lot at a local church. When a Mountain Home officer arrived, Pyle told him he had accidentally locked both sets of keys in the vehicle.

As the officer attempted to get a door open for Pyle, he reported seeing three “vacuum-type” bags on the passenger side floorboard. Pyle admitted the bags contained marijuana. Once the vehicle was unlocked, it was searched and more marijuana was located.

The officer reported the approximate aggregate amount of the marijuana in the vehicle was 516 grams. Pyle was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class C felony.

About five months later, Pyle ended up hiding under a bed in an apartment, where he had allegedly gone to sell marijuana to juveniles.

MHPD officers responded to the residence to assist juvenile services with the young people, one of whom had been reported to be in possession of drug paraphernalia commonly used for the ingestion of marijuana. As the officers were about to leave, they were told a resident of the apartment noticed someone in her room and a search was conducted. Pyle was found hiding under the bed.

A black backpack containing about 20 ounces of marijuana was found next to Pyle. When he was initially asked if there was anything illegal in the backpack, Pyle is reported to have replied, “Just weed.” Pyle said the drug belonged only to him.

In the second case, Pyle was charged with possession with the intent to deliver marijuana and with making the delivery near certain facilities. The apartment complex was reported to be within 1,000 feet of a church and an elementary school.
