The bodies of two people and a dog were found after a house fire Friday in Newton County. According Sheriff Glenn Wheeler, the fire occurred on Arkansas Highway 7 several miles south of Jasper.

Sheriff Wheeler says his office received multiple 911 calls Friday afternoon after 2:30, and the Deer, Jasper, Mount Sherman and Parthenon fire departments and Newton County deputies responded. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a deceased body near the front door of the residence and a second body further inside the house. As the house continued to burn, deputies recovered both bodies, a deceased dog and other evidence.

Both bodies have been been tentatively identified, but they are being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for confirmation of identities and of the cause of death. The names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
