
The Bad Boy Mowers Classic came to an end Friday at Izard County High School in Brockwell with a few local high school basketball teams picking up victories.
Flippin’s boys were able to defeat Timbo 63-27. Dale Smyser led the Bobcats with 15 points, and Devyn Payne added 10.
The Viola girls grabbed a 57-38 victory over Concord. The Lady Longhorns were led by Keyaira Moore with 16 points, Braidlyn Fierce scored 13, Samantha McCandlis had 12, and Lindsey Browning chipped in 11 points.
Izard County was able to win the other girls’ contest on Friday. The host Lady Cougars topped Bay 47-30.
Izard County’s boys continued their defense of last year’s Class 1A state title with a 78-60 win over Bergman. Coby Everett was the Cougars’ top scorer with 20 points, Caleb Faulkner provided 17,
Justus Cooper finished with 16, and Chase Orf added 11 points.
Friday’s action in the Twin Rivers Classic at Norfork ended a pair of victories for Valley Springs.
Calico Rock fell to the Tigers in the boys’ game by a final of 76-43. The Valley Springs girls later beat Marmaduke 70-56.
The night ended with South Side-Bee Branch sweeping a doubleheader over Maynard. The Lady Hornets ended up with a 47-37 decision over the Lady Tigers, and South Side’s boys routed Maynard 59-27.
The Mammoth Spring boys were able to win their home opener. The Bears defeated Marmaduke by a score of 64-44.
Omaha split its high school basketball games at Jasper. The Eagles took the boys’ game 54-47 over the Pirates. Omaha did not fare as well in the girls’ contest, as they lost to Jasper 61-32.
Western Grove’s high school teams won both of their games at Kingston. The boys’ game went down to the wire, as the Warriors edged out the Yellowjackets 53-51. Western Grove’s girls also topped Kingston 73-61.
