Gary Palmer Jr. of Cotter pled guilty to drug-related charges during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday and was sentenced to six years in prison with a judicial transfer to one of the Community Correction Centers in the state for addiction treatment.

Palmer, who is 28-years-old, was arrested in March and October.

The earlier arrest came when a search warrant was served on a residence along Powell Avenue in Cotter. Officers found drug paraphernalia, including two plastic containers holding approximately 50 used syringes, a bag of new syringes, smoking pipes and spoons.

According to the probable cause affidavit, methamphetamine residue was found on all the items.

Palmer’s latest arrest came early this month when Cotter Police Chief Travis Hopson stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. One of the passengers identified himself as “Adam Guinn.” Investigation disclosed “Guinn” was actually Palmer. He was on parole and had an active arrest warrant at the time, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Palmer was reported to have had a small plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine in the right front coin pocket of his pants.

As part of the plea agreement in the two cases, the state dismissed a revocation petition filed in a 2017 case.
