Upright RecordsAs he announced last week, Stray Cats bassist Lee Rocker has released a brand-new solo single called “Dog House Shuffle” today. An official video for the tune got its exclusive premiere Tuesday on Billboard.com.
“‘Dog House Shuffle’ is a song that I had a blast writing and thinking about,” says Rocker of the tune, which he wrote and produced. “It’s just plain fun! It’s really my tribute to the original rocking bass players that have influenced me so much. These guys are, in a way, the unsung heroes of rockabilly and early rock. We’ve incorporated these players into this video.”
The video features archival footage of various pioneering rock ‘n’ roll singers and their bass players, including Elvis Presley and Bill Black, Carl Perkins and his brother Jay, Johnny Cash and Marshall Grant, Bill Haley and Al Rex, Dorsey Burnette, and blues great Willie Dixon.
The clip also features scenes of Rocker and his backing group — which includes his son Justin — in the recording studio, as well as an animated depiction of the rockabilly musician.
Rocker has about 18 North American solo concerts lined up through May 2020, and he tells Billboard he’s also planning record more solo material. In addition, the bassist says he expects to play more with the Stray Cats next year, following the release of the group’s 2019 reunion album, 40, and 40th anniversary tour this past summer.
“Everything this year was really awesome,” Lee declares. “The band sounded great, and it was a hell of a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it and kept expanding it because of the good times the three of us were having…So we’re certainly looking at 2020, but we’re just not settled on it yet.”
“I am pretty confident you’ll see more of us, though.”
