A former member of the Marshall City Council has been arrested and charged with maintaining a drug premises.Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell says the arrest of 48-year-old Jeffrey Russell “Tubby” Myatt follows a three-month investigation by the Marshall Police Department.

According to Marshall Police Chief Lang Holland, his office initiated an investigation after receiving numerous complaints of individuals “coming and going” from Myatt’s residence along West Main Street late at night. Officers noted some of the individuals seen at Myatt’s residence had been arrested previously on drug charges.

Earlier this month, Holland says a Searcy County deputy conducted a “trash pull” at Myatt’s residence, confiscating two bags of trash at the end of the driveway. While sorting through the trash bags, several items of drug related paraphernalia were found. A Nartec field testing kit revealed some of the items contained methamphetamine residue. During a second “trash pull,” additional drug paraphernalia related to methamphetamine and several other items were discovered.

A search warrant was executed at Myatt’s residence last week by law enforcement officers with the Marshall Police Department and the Searcy County Sheriff’s Department. Holland says during the search, officers found 10 firearms and ammunition; a flashlight containing marijuana seeds; a baggie contained numerous pills; clear glass smoking devices; straws and bags containing residue; and plastic pill bottles.

Myatt was arrested and transported to the Searcy County Detention Center. He has been charged with a felony count of maintaining a drug premises and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Myatt faces a penalty enhancement, with his residence located across the street from a certified drug free zone with a church.

Myatt has since posted his $50,000 bond.
