A Marion County man, 40-year-old Chad Brotherton of Yellville, has been arrested and charged with rape and first-degree sexual assault. Both are Class Y felonies, the most serious crime classification in Arkansas not punishable by death.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the charges follow a referral from the Arkansas State Police’s Crimes Against Children Division, with the alleged incident occurring in late July. At the time of the alleged incident, the female victim was reportedly 5 years old.

After several attempts to confirm a date for an interview, Brotherton agreed to come to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 3. He reportedly denied the allegations during the interview.

Online jail records show Brotherton was booked into the Marion County Detention Center Thursday morning and was released about 45 minutes later, after posting a $50,000 bond.
