A Mountain Home man charged with threatening a number of people, including his ex-girlfriend and members of a family sheltering her, was sentenced to six years in prison with two to serve and four suspended during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Electronic court records show 46-year-old Clay Blount’s criminal history contains a number of charges brought in several Arkansas counties.

According to the probable cause affidavit in the terroristic threatening case in Baxter County, Blount’s anger seems mainly to have been directed toward the family sheltering his ex-girlfriend and assisting her in getting back on her feet.

Blount is alleged to have sent a message in January warning the family they needed to “find a hole to hide in” and to have threatened “…that the whole mountain you live on is going to burn down.”

In late January, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office investigator handling the case was told Blount had come into the ex-girlfriend’s workplace and had been chased away. The investigator located Blount walking along State Highway 5 South. When he was brought in for questioning, Blount claimed he did not know the woman worked at the establishment. As to the threatening messages, Blount is alleged to have conceded he might have sent them, but said he was high on methamphetamine and hazy on details.

The investigator warned Blount not to have any contact either in person or on social media with the ex-girlfriend or the family with which she lives, and Blount was said to have told the officer he understood and would comply with the instructions.

In early February, it was reported to the investigator Blount was again trying to establish contact with the woman in violation of the warning he had been given. Both the ex-girlfriend and members of the family assisting her have told the investigator they fear Blount is capable of carrying out his threats.

He was arrested and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening.
