A report of a potential intoxicated driver in Baxter County led to the arrest of a parolee from Izard County. According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, 35-year-old Joseph Lyons of Violet Hill is in the Baxter County Detention Center on multiple drug charges.

The sheriff’s office received the report just before 10:30 Friday evening of the driver on U.S. Highway 62/412 East. The caller stated the vehicle pulled into the parking lot of J & J Watersports in Henderson. A deputy responded, located the vehicle and pulled behind it. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Lyons, and discovered he was on parole with the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections with a search waiver on file.

Lyons was allegedly seen concealing something in his right hand, and the deputy then searched him and his vehicle. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle, and Lyons was taken into custody. The deputy reportedly noticed the top of a pill bottle on the floorboard. Lyons stated the bottle contained two Xanax pills, and he swallowed them.

After transporting Lyons to the detention center, the deputy checked the patrol vehicle and found an additional baggie of methamphetamine under the back seat. An approximate total of 2.4 grams of alleged methamphetamine was found and seized.

Lyons faces felony counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), two counts of tampering with physical evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia and a parole violation. His bond was set at $7,500 on the drug charges, but he’s being held without bond on the parole violation. Lyons is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court this month.
