A Mountain Home man is alleged to have participated in an early morning shooting incident. Thirty-year-old Christopher Whitman was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Tuesday morning on a felony count of aggravated assault.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Mountain Home officer responded to a report of a disturbance with gun shots fired just after 12:30 Tuesday morning. The victim stated he was confronted and subsequently shot by Whitman.

Whitman was later interviewed and reportedly admitted to firing a shot into the ground from a .22 caliber pistol. He said he later gave the pistol to a friend to be disposed of, but he refused to identify the friend.

The victim told authorities he was never going for a weapon. He claimed he ran to avoid getting shot.

According to the jail log, Whitman is also facing a violation of the Arkansas hot check law. His bond is set at $5,992, but he also has a hold for other agencies.
