Cotter High School teams fall at Mammoth Spring’s homecoming

The Cotter High School basketball teams were swept Friday at Mammoth Spring’s homecoming.

The boys’ game ended with the Warriors falling to the Bears 68-53. Cole Young led Mammoth Spring with 30 points, Alex Mero scored 18, and Zack Flynn added 16. The Bears improve to 3-3 on the season.

In the girls’ contest, Cotter lost to Mammoth Spring 49-40. The Lady Bears were led by Lauren Mitchell with 18 points, Terra Godwin had 13, and Megyn Upton chipped in 11. Mammoth Spring is now 5-1 on the year.

Both Mammoth Spring teams will travel to Viola on Monday.

Flippin’s boys were victorious in the Shot Clock Classic at the New School in Fayetteville. The Bobcats topped Life Way Christian from Centerton by a score of 52-43.

Bruno-Pyatt ended up with two high school losses at Viola. The Patriots lost the boys’ game to the Longhorns 57-36. In the earlier game, Bruno-Pyatt’s girls fell to Viola 66-21.

Calico Rock lost both of its high school games at Western Grove. In the boys’ game, the Pirates fell to the Warriors 65-44. Western Grove also captured the girls’ game 53-43 over Calico Rock.

Izard County won two of three games at Lead Hill.

The Cougars took the senior boys’ game over the Tigers 60-22. Dylan Tharp was Izard County’s top scorer with 11 points, and Justus Cooper finished with 10. The Cougars remain unbeaten in five games on the season and are 2-0 in the 1A-2.

Izard County’s senior girls did not fare as well as they fell to Lead Hill 42-34. The Lady Cougars drop to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The evening began with the Izard County junior boys topping Lead Hill 46-29. Noah Stevenson paced the Junior Cougars with 19 points. Izard County improves to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.

Omaha’s boys had a tough road outing. The Eagles were edged out by Alpena 54-51.

Mountain Home Christian Academy began the season by winning a pair of boys’ games at home over Christian Ministry Academy.

The Eagles took the varsity game with a 59-40 decision. Mountain Home Christian was led by Caleb Spray with 22 points, and Trenton Cox added 16.

Mountain Home Christian also won the 14-and-under boys’ game 64-21. Gabriel Rogers was the 14-and-under Eagles’ leading scorer with 14 points, and Gabe Spray chipped in 12.
