5 local high school football teams advance to state playoffs

The postseason begins this week for high school football in Arkansas, and the season will continue for five local teams.

Yellville-Summit is one of three area schools taking part in the Class 3A State Playoffs. The Panthers, the fifth-seeded team from the 3A-2, will be on the road Friday as they face Newport.

Melbourne will also be one of the road teams after finishing third in the 3A-2. The Bearkatz first round opponent this week will be Centerpoint.

Mountain View will enter the postseason as the fourth place team from the 3A-2. The Yellowjackets’ first game in the Class 3A State Playoffs will be at Greenland.

Salem will head into the Class 2A State Playoffs as the champions of the 2A-3. The Greyhounds clinched a first round bye and home field advantage through the semifinals. Their first game will be Nov. 22, as they take on either Parkers Chapel or Poyen.

Harrison will take its undefeated record into the Class 5A State Playoffs. The 5A-West champion Goblins will be the home team as long as they remain alive in the postseason. Harrison will play Batesville on Friday.
