The Stray Cats frontman won’t be rocking any towns this holiday season with his Brian Setzer Orchestra because he’s been diagnosed with a severe case of tinnitus and, under doctor’s orders, has been forced to cancel his big band’s 16th annual Christmas Rocks! Tour.
The trek had been scheduled to visit more than 20 U.S. cities and was mapped out from a November 15 show in Minneapolis through a December 21 concert in Los Angeles.
“It’s heartbreaking to disappoint my fans who have shared my Christmas seasons with me for over 15 years,” Setzer says in a statement. “I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused all of the amazing people who make my tour happen and to my unbelievably loyal and devoted fans. I hate to let you down and I hope you’ll understand.”
Earlier this year, Setzer and The Stray Cats released their first new studio album in 26 years, 40, and mounted a reunion tour in honor of the group’s 40th anniversary. Brian also played shows with his solo group, Rockabilly Riot.
In other news, The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s 2005 holiday album, Dig That Crazy Christmas, was released on vinyl for the first time on Friday, November 8. The disc is available on red-and-white-splatter vinyl.
